This week was pretty big for the book. I received the draft of the cover, the last version to proof, and I visited our friend Homer Perkins to show him the final drafts.
The cover looks pretty good. The font is a little too swirly and hard to read on the front cover, the image needs a little clean-up, and the back cover text requires a bit more polish, but overall it looks good. Even the graphic ladies at work like it.
I chose a 6 x 9 size for the book. I wanted it to be a little different. Oh – I hope that was the right decision. By having it that big (vs. a 5 x 8), it will be fewer than 200 pages.
My proofers are Aunt Jane and my friends Delphine and Jack. I will be waking up bright and early tomorrow to get a good start on it. It needs to be finished by the 13th, but I hope to have it done by the 9th. Then again, why send it on a Friday – it’s not like anything will happen with it over the weekend and I can proof a bit more.
My dad and I went to visit Mr. Perkins yesterday. He helped with some of the historical references since he worked at Stanhome and was a board member of the Park back in the 1940s. While we were talking, I realized I mislabeled one of the trail references in the book, so I will definitely have at least one thing to change. Bummer.
So if all goes well with proofing, we could be printing as early as the end of October. I’m hoping for early November.
